Paris Hilton accepted a plea deal

Sunday, September 19, 2010

Paris Hilton accepted a plea deal and escaped with probation after her recent felony drug arrest in Las Vegas, but if she doesn't toe the line and abide by her probation terms, a stint behind bars could still be in her future, a la Lindsay Lohan.
The ho-tel heiress agreed to plead guilty to two misdemeanors in her pending drug possession case, netting her a year of probation but no jail ... yet.
Hilton is scheduled to formally plead guilty Monday.
Hilton Milks It

The socialite was arrested last month for felony cocaine possession after a bag of cocaine fell out of her bag and into the hangs of a police lieutenant.
Paris' boyfriend Cy Waits was being stopped for DUI at the time (he was arrested for that) of the cocaine discovery. She dubiously claimed that the purse was not hers, a really bad lie even by her standards that unraveled on Twitter.
After she and Cy Waits posed for hilarious mug shots, they were booked on their respective criminal charges. They're still together, though, not to worry.
Paris is pleading guilty to two misdemeanor charges: drug possession and misdemeanor obstructing an officer. Two consecutive six-month sentences in behind bars will be suspended and Hilton will be placed on year long probation.
This is no slap on the wrist, though. If Hilton is arrested during her probation, she will have to serve the full year in jail, according to the plea deal.
"Defendant agrees that an arrest for any charge, excluding minor traffic violations for which a citation is issued, shall result in the immediate termination of her probation and the execution of the suspended sentences," the deal states.
A minor traffic violation would be anything other than reckless driving or driving under the influence. So speeding and parking tickets are all good!
Hilton must also successfully complete a substance abuse program, pay a $2,000 fine and perform 200 hours of community service, according to the plea deal. The nature and location of the community service are TBD.
Clark County D.A. David Roger said, "We fashioned a resolution which would give us complete control over her future. If she does not toe the line and stay out of trouble she will do one year in the Clark County Detention Center."

Russell Brand Arrested,

A day before Adam Lambert was accused of battery in a scuffle with a member of the paparazzi, Russell Brand was arrested and questioned by police for the same.
The comedian was making his way through LAX airport yesterday when reports say he lashed out at paparazzi attempting to photograph Katy Perry too closely.
Brand is accused of pushing one photographer and striking others while defending his fiancee, who says the paps tried to take photos up her skirt. Messed up.
A victim performed a citizen’s arrest on Brand and he was interviewed by airport police before being taken into custody for a misdemeanor charge of battery.
He was released after posting $20,000 bail.
After the incident, Katy Perry Tweeted:
"If you cross the line & try and put a lens up my dress, my fiancĂ© will do his job & protect me. #standbyourman #don’tf**kwiththeBrands."
Russell has not commented on his approximately 200th arrest, and has been accused of much worse, so we doubt he's sweating it so much.
The alleged upskirting does cross a line. People should be allowed to do their jobs, but should also refrain from flagrant violations of privacy.

Lindsay Lohan has failed her most recent mandatory drug test

Share |

This is not just a rumor. She confirmed it herself on Twitter.
It may mean the 24-year-old is headed back to the slammer. L.A. Superior Court Judge Elden Fox had threatened to hand her 30 days for each violation.
Lohan, who served just a fraction of her previous jail and rehab sentences, confesed on Twitter: "Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test."
TMZ reports Lindsay Lohan had "multiple dirty tests" and that the drug in question was cocaine at least once. The actress continued her mea cupla:
"If I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge Fox next week. Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn't go away over night."
"I am working hard to overcome it and am taking positive steps forward. I am testing every day and doing what I must to prevent any [more] mishaps."
The train wreck concludes, "This was certainly a setback for me but I am taking responsibility for my actions and I'm prepared to face the consequences."
A hearing would take place before Lindsay Lohan could be sent to jail, but a L.A. County District Attorney spokeswoman said none is scheduled ... yet.
Lohan, 24, was a successful child and teen star, was sentenced to three months in jail and then three months in rehab after an initial probation violation.
That probation related to charges for drug use and driving under the influence of alcohol following a car crash in 2007. Ever since, she's been a mess.
Despite receiving a sentence of 90 days in prison and 90 more in rehab, she ended up serving under two weeks in jail followed by 23 days in rehab.
At a hearing last month, Fox ordered the actress to attend psychotherapy, drug and alcohol counseling as well as random drug and alcohol testing.
So much for partying all night sober ... that plan never works.
Compliance would allow her to return to unsupervised probation in November, but it doesn't look like that's happening, given Lohan's admission.
The fact that she's taking responsibility is admirable, but could also mean she simply has no feasible excuse this time. She's the queen of them.

Adam Lambert Accused with Cameraman

Following that singer's tantrum at the sight of a paparazzo, THG said we understood how irritating those losers can be, but celebrities also must learn to expect such annoyances as part of the world in which they've chosen to live. The alternative is to give these parasites exactly what they are looking for: a story.
Lambert has learned this lesson the hard way, as the former American Idol finalist has been accused of battery.

The incident in question took place yesterday in Miami, as Adam attacked a photographer... who then filed a report with the Miami Beach police around 10:30 p.m.
In documents obtained by TMZ, the victim claims Adam grabbed his backpack "where the camera was placed" ... and "wrestled [the photog] to the ground forcefully." There were no visible marks of any kind on the cameraman.
Cops will review the evidence and then decide if the case is worth turning over to the State's Attorney, who could choose to prosecute Lambert on a misdemeanor battery charge that could lead to a year in prison.
The odds of this case getting anywhere near that far? About as high as Glenn Beck attending the Rally to Restore Sanity.
Following the confrontation, Lambert owned up to his actions on Twitter and wrote: "I lost my temper for a sec but wow it felt great lol... I attempted to grab a camera, no punches were thrown and no one was on the ground.... It was literally harmless. If embarrassment is a crime- thats all I'm guilty of."

John Travolta Drops Extortion Charges Against Paramedic

John Travolta has enough personal issues to deal with these days: some idiot author has accused the actor of having gay affairs, while wife Kelly Preston is pregnant.
As a result of all that's on his plate, Travolta has chosen to drop the extortion charges against a Bahamian paramedic and lawyer who allegedly threatened to expose details of Jett Travolta's death last year unless the movie star paid $25 million.

Said Travolta, speaking on this decision and on the first trial of Tarino Lightbourne and Pleasant Bridgewater, which resulted in a mistrial:
"The first trial in this matter resulted in a heavy emotional toll on my family. It was finally time to put this matter behind us... I concluded that it was in my family's best interest for me not to voluntarily return to the Bahamas to testify a second time at trial."
We wish Travolta and Preston nothing but the best.
