Clooney's The American Takes Charge Of U.S. Box Office
GEORGE CLOONEY brought out the patriotism in U.S. film fans this weekend (03-05Sep10) - his new drama THE AMERICAN stands proud at the top of the country's box office, opening with $12.9 million (£8.6 million).
The Hollywood star's latest release beat director Robert Rodriguez's MAChete to number one - the all-star action movie, featuring Jessica Alba and Lindsay Lohan, debuts in second place with $12.3 million (£8.2 million).
Heist film Takers and horror The Last Exorcism take third and fourth place, respectively.
Drew Barrymore and Justin Long failed to draw the crowds during America's Labor Day weekend with Going the Distance - the romantic comedy only manages to scrape into fifth place, debuting with $7.1 million (£4.7 million).
